On Oct. 7, both Haddam-Killingworth teams concluded their regular season as they traveled to Old Saybrook to compete in the Shoreline Mega Meet. The boys' squad swept the event and came away with five victories on the afternoon to finish its dual-meet campaign with an undefeated record of 16-0.

The boys defeated Old Lyme (18-45), Cromwell (20-43), Hale Ray (18-45), Coginchaug (20-43), and East Hampton (15-50). The squads once again had a good day and were led by a sixth-place finish for the boys as they scored 314 points to place sixth out of 59 teams. The girls came in 17th (502 points) out of 57 clubs.

Football

HK traveled to Muzzy Field in Bristol on Oct. 11 and scored its first win of the year by a 27-13 final over Lewis Mills to improve to 1-4. The victory also marked the first in the head coaching career of Mike Baklik.

Josh Breiling rushed for 94 yards on 15 carries and scored all four of his team's touchdowns. Quarterback Alex Segaline rushed for 52 yards on 13 carries, was 5-for-12 throwing, and passed for 102 yards, including a 50-yard strike to Breiling.

Both teams failed on early scoring opportunities, getting to 1st-and-goal on their first possessions, but failing to score. The teams traded scores until the fourth quarter, when the Cougars broke a 13-13 tie with the 50-yard TD strike from Segaline to Breiling. HK sealed the victory with Breiling's fourth TD of the game, a 2-yard run with 5:17 remaining.

"We played a complete game tonight," said Coach Baklik. "Josh Breiling, in particular, played well-especially on his touchdown reception, which came off a deflection. He was hustling toward the ball to block for the receiver and that hustle put him in the perfect position to catch the deflection and go into the end zone untouched."

Field Hockey

The Cougars (6-3-0-1; 5-2 in Shoreline Conference) scored a come-from-behind 2-1 victory at Old Saybrook on Oct. 8 after being down 1-0 at the half prior to a 2-0 loss to North Branford at home on Oct. 10.

Brinley Anderson and Julia Babbitt each had a goal following intermission to push the Cougars to the triumph as Katie Hausherr and Dani Roman notched assists. Meghan Cerino also denied three Rams' shots. Against North Branford, the Thunderbirds scored twice in the first half and held their lead from there as they put nine shots on goal to the Cougars' four. Cerino also made seven stops in the cage.
