The Guilford volleyball squad took two of its three contests last week. The Indians did see their three-match winning streak come to an end on Sept. 27 when they fell 3-2 to SCC Hammonasset Division rival Foran to leave their record at 4-4 (1-1 in division play).

Guilford won the three games 25-15, 25-11, and 25-18 while facing Hamden. The final scores in the North Haven 3-0 decision read 25-19, 25-13, and 25-14 in Guilford's favor. Carlson contributed with 22 assists, four kills, and four digs; Emma Jewett had three kills and six digs; Wirth collected five kills and three aces; Meredith Shank tallied 17 digs and five kills; Sam Shank chipped in 21 digs; Mirrione came through with seven kills and three digs; Murtagh had nine digs and an ace; plus Stanton added four kills.

Hosting Foran, Guilford took 25-22 and 25-18 victories to lead the match after three games, but the Lions prevailed in the final two by 25-12 and 15-13 margins. Racking up the numbers were Carlson (13 assists, 3 aces), Jewett (3 kills, 5 digs), Wirth (7 kills, 5 blocks, 3 aces), Meredith Shank (7 kills, 3 blocks, 4 aces, 17 digs), Sam Shank (18 digs), and Mirrione (4 kills, 2 aces).

"This could have been the best team we faced all year," said Head Coach Laura Meyer on Foran. "They had strong hitters all the way around and the girls played to the top level."
