Hand Girls' Volleyball Looks to Reach Postseason Under New Coach

Bringing back a strong returning cast, the Hand girls' volleyball squad looks for an encore performance to lead them back to the postseason with the guidance of a new coach.

Ally Johnson, assisted by Giovanni Meier, begins her first year as head coach with captains Cassidy Wygonik, Julie Lengle, and Maddie McDonald. Krissy LaSance, Kennedy Hye, and Ryan Corniello are also expected to be a big part of the Tigers' lineup.

"Cassidy Wygonik brings a positive attitude and dedication and is hard working. Julie Lengle is encouraging, supportive and hard working. Maddie McDonald has high energy, a positive attitude, and is encouraging to others," said Johnson, who points out SCC Hammonasset Division-rival Guilford as a key opponent for the season. "Our goals are to make it to both the SCC and state tournaments, and I am looking forward to a great season with a fantastic group of girls."

The Tigers are coming off of a 10-8 campaign that saw them reach the Class LL State Tournament as the No. 18 seed before falling to No. 15 Danbury 3-1 in the first round of play. In terms of SCC action, Hand held a 5-3 mark in the Hammonasset Division to finish runner-up behind Foran prior to the Tigers falling in the opening round of the league draw to Sheehan.
