Three Locals Participate in Extreme Swim Fundraiser

On July 19, three men representing two 501c(3) non-profit organizations based in Old Saybrook set forth to swim over four miles in order to raise funds and awareness about the missions of their companies. David M. Shearer, MD of Old Saybrook and from the Therapeutic Research Foundation, Paul Kwaseniewski of Old Saybrook and from Veterans in America, and John Gavin, Jr., a sprint triathlete from East Lyme, participated in an extreme swim beginning at Rocky Neck State Beach proceeding around the Black Point and ending in Niantic State Beach at the "Hole in the Wall." The distance measures 4.73 miles, but with the added tides and currents of the day, the swimmers mastered over six miles. The three swimmers were kept safe on the water by watch from captain Stefan Golicz and Dorothy Shearer, MS and RN, respectively. All proceeds from the event went toward research and development of biotechnology related solutions (www.tr-f.org) and purchasing and training of service dogs for veterans (www.veteransinamerica.org). Donations are welcome and checks can be made payable to: Dare to Reach Fundraiser, 25 Saltus Drive, Old Saybrook CT, 06475. Photo and information courtesy of Dorothy Shearer
