HK Boys' Track Shoreline Conference Runner-Up


Boys' Outdoor Track

Haddam-Killingworth earned 121 points to finish runner-up at the Shoreline Conference Championship on May 28 at Westbrook.

Event winners were Garrett Murphy (12-3 for the pole vault), Canute Watson (23.40 in the 200; 11.45 with the 100), and Ethan Kovach (51.18 for the 400). Other point producers for HK were the 4x800 (2nd, 8:45.30), 4x100 (also 2nd; 45.27), and 4x800 (3rd; 3:36.33) relay teams; plus Kovach (3rd; 11.59 in the 100), Garrelts (2nd; 4:36.09 with the 1,600), Pat Fitzgibbons (4th; 4:40.91 for the 1,600), Christian Ticino (3rd; 52.79 with the 400), Kovach (2nd; 23.91 for the 200), Fitzgibbons (5th; 10:30.04), Gavin Manzi (6th; 10:36.24), and David Baird (7th;10:39.10) in the 3,200, Chris Kauffman (3rd; 40-5 ½ for the shot put), and Taylor Sergi (4th; 133-1 in the javelin).

Baseball

3rd-seeded HK (15-7) earned a 1-0 win over No. 6 North Branford at home in the Shoreline Conference Tournament quarterfinals on May 27 before a 3-0 loss to No. 2 Cromwell on May 29 in the semifinals.

In the quarterfinal victory, Brian Moskey struck out six and pitched a two-hit shutout to get his sixth win of the season. The Cougars got on the board in the fifth, scoring on three hits and an error for the only run of the game.

Prior to that, the Cougars finished the regular season 14-6 thanks to a 3-2 victory at Morgan on May 25. Griffin Bremer struck out eight and scattered three hits to get his ninth win of the season. Luigi Fazzino had three hits for HK, while Trevor Mann drove in all three runs for the Cougars.

Girls' Tennis

HK scored a 7-0 win over Morgan on May 27 to finish the regular season 10-8.

Wins came by way of Reilly Fitzgibbons (6-0, 6-1), Mackenzie Earley (6-0, 6-2), Jen Halleck (6-2, 6-3), Allison Sheahan (6-3, 6-1); plus the tandems of Lex Regan and Gwen Plum (6-0, 6-0); Hannah Casey and Mary Coletti (6-1, 6-3); and Jackie Stephens and Emma Martone (7-6, 1-6, 6-2), as Earley finished the regular campaign undefeated. The Cougars then fell in the qualifying round of the Class S State Tournament to Lyman Memorial 7-0 on May 31.
