Girls' Lax Scores 10-8 Senior Night Upset of Cheshire

The Guilford girls' lacrosse team defeated defending SCC champion Cheshire at home on May 17 by a 10-8 final on Senior Night, as the Indians handed the Rams their first SCC loss of their campaign, prior to Guilford taking an 8-7 loss at Branford on May 19 to sit at 5-7.

"This game brought us from a non-qualifying [for the league tournament] fifth place in the SCC to third place. It has been at least four years since Guilford has beaten Cheshire," said Head Coach Steve Jewett on the Cheshire win. "The defense of Grace Ireland, Jenna Moscarelli, Katie Jankura, Sarah Amble, Katrina Niedziela, Amy Puchini, and Sarah DeLucia allowed for only eight goals from Cheshire's powerful offense."

In the victory, Edy Moritz led the way with four goals, two assists, six ground balls, and four draw controls. Elsewhere, Emma Jewett added two scores, an assist, and two draw wins; Marnie Jacobs tacked on a goal and a dish; plus Alex Fitzgerald, Nicole Raccuia, and Catherine Lawrence each tallied a goal. Brooke Distante stopped seven of nine shots faced in net.
