Softball Picks Up Second Win on the Campaign

Guilford softball took a 5-2 loss at SCC Hammonasset Division foe Law on April 16 before a 9-2 home victory over Sacred Heart Academy on April 17 to move to 2-4 (0-1 in SCC Hammonasset) on the year.

Against Law, Lilly Young and Megan Zampano both went 1-for-3 and scored runs. Law scored four in the first inning and never trailed in the game. Ignatowski shut down Law for the last five innings on two hits and one unearned run, but Guilford couldn't overcome its deficit. The Indians scored two in the sixth on a double by Young and singles by Zampano and Allie Stephens.

"We came out flat in the first inning, but I was very happy that we never gave up. We never quit," said Head Coach Steve Zajac. "We kept working hard on the mound, on defense, and at bat, but unfortunately, our bats didn't get going until the sixth inning."

Hosting SHA, Ashley Ignatowski struck out eight and scattered four hits for the win. Aimee Munck went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two RBI while Morgan King had two hits and put Guilford ahead for good in the fifth with run-scoring single.

"The team showed a lot of character in the fifth inning," said Zajac. "SHA had come back to tie the game and the momentum was starting to shift, but we came right back with consecutive hits by Ashley Ignatowski, Aimee Munck, and Morgan King to take the lead back for good. I was very proud of the team's effort today."
