Pictured are Callahan Henry of Madison, Riley Gordon of Higganum, and Nicholas Antony of Guilford, three boys that have had great success this year for the Nutmeg Twisters' boys' gymnastics squad-the program's first competitive boys' team in almost a decade.

The Nutmeg Twisters (TNT) gymnastics team of Guilford has been known for producing amazing female athletes for the past 14 years, but what many may not know is that TNT also houses a competitive boys' program.

This past season was the first time in almost 10 years that TNT has had a competitive boys' team. The team is currently made up of three boys in Callahan Henry, age 12, of Madison; Nicholas Antony, age 12, of Guilford; and Riley Gordon, age 7, of Higganum.

Henry, a student at Polson Middle School in Madison, began the season as a level 4 gymnast. He placed second in the all-around at the Abie Grossfeld Invitational. He also placed first on the high bar, pommel horse, and vault in his age division. Throughout the campaign, he continued to place high in the all-around and quickly advanced to level 5. After only a month of training at level 5, he qualified for the state championship meet where he took the top spot on vault and pommel horse, runner-up on floor, and fourth in the all-around. He also qualified to represent Connecticut at the Men's Region 6 Championships in Braintree, Massachusetts.

Antony is a Level 4 gymnast and a 7th-grader at Adams Middle School in Guilford. At the Connecticut State Championship meet this past March, he placed first on floor and vault before he took third in the all-around for his age group.

Gordon, a 2nd-grader at Haddam Elementary School in Higganum, is also a TNT Legacy team member. Riley represented his team well this year, especially at the Abie Grossfeld Invitational in January, where he won the high bar, parallel bars, and all-around, along with finishing second on rings and pommel horse, plus third-place showings on vault and floor.

"These boys started off with absolutely no competitive experience and transformed themselves into some of the top gymnasts in the state. It was amazing to see the determination they had to improve as athletes, and there was nothing better than seeing them finish among the top in the state," said boys' Coach Tyler Redes.
