Skiing Wins Three, Finishes Campaign 11-14

On Feb. 26, the Indians' skiing squad closed out the season with Guilford (302.11 points) defeating Berlin and Farmington (both disqualified) and losing to Staples (265.75), Fairfield (277.03), and Darien (292.46) to finish 11-14 on the year. Scoring for Guilford were Renee Russo (47.77), Peggy Wagner (49.11), Justin Clark (49.38), Andrew Bottiger (30.42), Cami Makula (51.51), and Meghan Scott (53.92).

Prior to that, the Indians raced on Feb. 24 and Guilford (311.19) defeated Hopkins (318.76), but lost to Cheshire (267.53), Glastonbury (269.53), Ridgefield (262.34), and Weston (273.73). Tallying points for Guilford were Russo (46.54), Wagner (49.68), and Makula (51.02), along with Bottiger (51.07), Kendra McGuire (56.02), and Scott (56.86).

Despite not qualifying for the State Championship as a group, Head Coach Rolf Meyer couldn't be more proud of his squad's efforts, especially in the final race.

"Even though Guilford did not qualify for the State Championship race, it was not for lack of heart," said Meyer. "Guilford turned in its fastest team time of the year with many of the racers really letting it go for the second run, some more than two seconds faster than the first run."
