Girls' Ice Hockey Falls in SCC DI Semis

Guilford girls' ice hockey lost a hard-fought 2-1 decision at Newington to East Catholic in the semifinal round of the SCC Division I Tournament on Feb. 24.

Nicole Raccuia got the Indians ahead with a goal at the 12:21 juncture of the second period before the home team answered with two straight tallies. Guilford was outshot 39-19 as Edy Moritz made 37 saves.

Guilford (now 12-7 overall) then focused its attention on the State Tournament. The Indians earned the No. 5 seed and faced No. 4 New Canaan on March 3 in the quarterfinal round. A win there would put them in the semifinals on March 5 against either top-seeded Darien or No. 8 Hamden and then a victory in that matchup would bring Guilford to the final on Saturday, March 8 at Ingalls Rink in New Haven.
