Fencing Earns Clean Sweep over Hand


The Guilford fencing team hosted Hand on Jan. 16 and captured each of the six matchups, all of which were foil contests. For varsity, the boys and girls scored 7-2 and 8-1 decisions, respectively. In the JV ranks, the girls prevailed, 5-4, and the boys, 8-1. For novices, the boys and girls were each 5-4 winners.

In varsity bouts, Charlotte Killiam went 3-0 and outscored her opponents, 15-2, as did Kyle Evered. JV girls' competitor Margaux Shoff clinched the victory with a 5-0 win in the final bout of the match, while the victory was clinched by Rogan Kaisen with a 5-3 triumph in the sixth bout for the boys' side. The boys' novice group clinched its win with a 5-1 victory by Hank Huhnke, as Veronica Pantalone won her match, 5-0, to seal the girls' novice win.

The season records for the Indians' teams are as follows: boys' varsity (4-0), boys' JV (3-0), boys' novice (2-1); girls' varsity (4-0), girls' JV (2-1), and girls' novice (3-0).
