Valley Gymnastics Earns Win on Senior Night


Senior Maggie Calamari was honored on Senior Night on Feb. 7 with a victory over HK/Old Saybrook/Hale-Ray.

The Valley Regional gymnastics team lost a close heartbreaker to HK/Old Saybrook/Hale-Ray on Jan. 31, but rebounded nicely on Senior Night for a victory to honor its lone senior in Maggie Calamari on Feb. 7.

In the Warriors' loss, Valley scored a total of 122.7 points behind HK/Old Saybrook/Hale-Ray's 123 score. Mikayla Connor led the way with an 8.6 on vault, 8.0 on bars, 9.0 on beam, 8.6 on floor, and a 34.2 all-around score, followed by Calamari's 8.2 on vault, 7.4 on bars, 6.8 on beam, 8.0 on floor, and 30.4 all-around score. Jenna Armenia had an 8.0 on vault, 7.1 on bars, 7.1 on beam, 7.1 on floor, and 29.3 all-around, while Melanie Lee had a 7.5 on vault, 5.8 on bars, 6.0 on beam, 6.2 on floor, and 25.5 all-around. Julianna Alvord competed on bars only and scored a 9.1.

Versus HK/Old Saybrook/Hale-Ray once again on Feb. 7 and in honor of Calamari, the Warriors won with 128.3 points over their opponents' 124.25 points. Lee scored a 7.6 on vault, 7.0 on bars, 7.3 on beam, and 6.8 on floor for a 28.7 all-around, Armenia scored a 7.1 on vault, 7.3 on bars, 8.1 on beam, 7.4 on floor, and a 29.9 all-around, Connor had an 8.6 on vault, 7.9 on bars, 9.1 on beam, and 8.5 on floor for an all-around score of 34.1, Alvord scored a 9.1 on bars in her only event, and Calamari shined with an 8.1 vault, 8.1 on bars, 8.5 on beam, and 7.9 on floor for an all-around of 32.6.
