Tigers' Gymnastics Makes It 6-0 with Four Wins

The Tigers' gymnastics squad picked up a quartet of victories to go 6-0 on Jan. 15, earning a team score of 133.65 to top North Haven (74.75), Hamden (74.65), and Branford (40.75), then defeating Foran by a score of 137-125.4 on Jan. 18.

On Jan. 15, Kendall Jerzyk earned scores of 35.6 all-around, 9.1 on floor, and 9.05 on beam while Stefani Taschner made her own marks of 33.6 (all-around), 9.15 (vault), and 8.5 (beam). Erin Maxwell contributed in the victory with 32.05 in the all-around, 8.5 on beam, and 8.4 on floor, while Maria Iennaco earned 8.5 on vault and 8.2 on floor. Other scores included Becca Anderson (7.9 on bars), along with Ashlyn Thompson and Kendall Goodman (8.0 each on floor). Freshmen Nicole Farrales (vault and bars) and Genevieve Geller (beam) also made their high school debuts.

"Tonight was a pretty easy win for us, but our performances were not as polished as they needed to be," said Head Coach Kelly Smith. "We'll take the win, but we definitely have some work to do before we see some of the state powerhouse teams like Glastonbury and Woodstock Academy at states. Jerzyk's all-around performance was definitely a highlight tonight; we went 4-for-4 hitting every routine. Erin Maxwell also made some great improvements on her beam performance tonight."

Against the Lions, Abby McGuirk led with 35.9 in the all-around, coupled with 9.2 on bars and floor; Jerzyk added marks of 35.2 (all-around), 9.2 on floor, and 8.9 on vault. Anderson scored 8.9 on beam, while Maxwell tallied 33.7 in the all-around, plus 8.8 on beam and 8.2 on bars. Additional marks were Amanda Rubano (8.5 on beam), Julie Keenan (8.4 on vault), and Lauren LaChapelle (27.75 all-around).

"We had a great meet tonight with some really strong performances. Abby and Kendall had high all-around scores and are looking clean, confident as anchors in our lineup," said Smith, whose squad continues an undefeated campaign. "Erin Maxwell has made some routine improvements on bars and beam recently that were really apparent in her scores tonight and improved her all-around. Becca Anderson continues to be our beam queen, nailing her routine and getting her highest score of the season."
