Tigers Put Their Skills on Full Display

The Hand cheerleading team swept gold in all the categories at the Universal Cheerleading Association camp on July 29. Twenty-one cheer athletes attended the four-day UCA cheer camp, where they learned tradition sidelines, cheer material, stunting, and pyramids. The camp ended with a cheer competition in three categories: an extreme routine containing dance and stunts, a cheer, and a fight song. In every category, Hand won first place, including awards for Most Spirited and Best Traditions and Superior Performances.

Hand also had three athletes named to the UCA All-American Team in seniors Christine Donat and Franchesca Nowak, and junior Tiffany Kaufmann. The trio was awarded medals and an invitation to cheer with other top athletes at the New Year's Day Parade in London in 2013. Both Donat and Kaufmann have attended the London festivities in prior years. Taylor Ardito was also a finalist for Best Jumps. The team is coached by Michelle Kaufmann and Licia Ciotti.
