Sailing Finishes Sixth in States

The Hand sailing team competed in the 2012 Connecticut State High School Sailing Regatta at the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London on April 28. The Tigers had a very strong overall finish, coming in sixth place out of 20 competing schools.

The event was broken into two nine-race divisions, whose points were then combined for a total score to crown a champion. Hand's A Division boat of Griffin Pilz and Casey Pilz scored 45 points and finished second in its class. The Tigers' B Division boat that was crewed by Travis Carlisle, Erik McKissick, Kate Mazzeo, and Lynsey Kirby scored 86 points, good for 10th in its class. Overall, Hand totaled 131 points, just 16 points behind Fairfield Prep for fifth place.
