Guilford Crew Team Continuing to Build Speed

The Guilford co-ed crew team continued its strong season over the last two weeks. Both of the girls' boats are undefeated, while the boys' boats have traded first-and-second-place finishes at multi-team events.

On April 18, Guilford hosted neighbor Middletown at Lake Quonnipaug. The girls managed to best Middletown's first and second boats in the 1,350-meter race. The first varsity boat cruised to a 4:51.8 finish, while the second boat recorded a 5:03.2 finish. The boys won the second boat race (4:40.8), but the first boat (4:28.7) was overcome by Middletown's first boat.

Guilford went on to sweep a contest against Litchfield on April 21 with both the girls' and the boys' sides winning all contests. The girls' first boat finished with a time of 4:42.9 and the second boat crossed in 5:01.8. The boys' boats were equally impressive as the first boat rowed to a 4:32.8 finish, while the second boat finished in 4:38.7.

On April 25, the Indians raced against perennial powerhouse Farmington, along with visiting Litchfield. The girls managed to sweep all three of their races, but Farmington took the boys' races with Guilford, coming in second in their three races. According to Coach Will Thompson, his team has started to show great depth with its lower boats turning in quality results against often larger and long-standing rivals.
