Guilford Crew Speeds Right Past Lewis Mills

Guilford's co-ed crew team opened the spring season with a solid day of racing against Lewis Mills on April 4. Held on a windy day at Lake Quonnipaug, Guilford's home course, both the girls' and boys' boats won all of their respective races. The race featured girls' first, second, and third level boats and the boys raced first and second level boats on the 1,300-meter course.

Captains Ali Tucker, Sarah Jonathan, and Ryan Morris guided the girls' first boat to a decisive victory, finishing with a time of 5:23, over a minute better than Lewis Mills's 6:28. The girls' second and third boats swept their races against Lewis Mills's second boat (6:30.7) as the Indians' boats challenged each other for nearly two-thirds of the course before the second boat widened the gap in the final 300 meters. The second boat finished in a time of 5:37.4 with the third boat just behind in 5:51.

The boys' captains of Connor Wallace, Tim Kowalsky, and Andrew Bonner pushed their first boat to victory in a tighter race. In the early stages, Lewis Mills (5:09) and Guilford each vied for position before Guilford eventually opened water gaining the lead for good (4:45). The Guilford boys' second boat (5:13.2) raced the Lewis Mills' second (5:56.8) and third boats (6:42.5), dominating the race throughout.
