Amanda Macolino Ties for 1st on Bars as North Haven Indians' Gymnastics Nearly Knocks Off Law

Amanda Macolino tied for first place on beam with an 8.60 as the North Haven gymnastics squad brought its season to a close by nearly defeating one of the state's top teams in Law, ultimately dropping a 127.65-123.55 decision.

Macolino's victory helped her tie for fourth in the all-around with her sister Lauren Macolino. Teammate Marie Facin placed third in the all-around and Gabrielle Gontarek claimed fifth.

Facin's third-place all-around showing was led by her finishing second on vault, fourth on floor, tying for sixth on bars, and taking eighth on beam. In addition to her victory on beam, Amanda Macolino finished fourth on bars, fifth on vault, and eighth on floor. Lauren Macolino came in fourth on vault and beam, fifth on bars, and seventh on floor. Gontarek placed third on floor, tied for third on vault, tied for sixth on bars, and finished seventh on beam.

"This was the team's best all-around performance and they really went out with a statement," said Coach Brian LeRoux, whose team finished with six wins. "Amanda was the gymnast of this meet; I felt like crying when she posted a whopper of a score at 8.60. The rest of the team also gave a fine performance. Watch out for next year."
