Guilford Girls' Hockey Explodes for 20 Goals

After Simsbury snapped its four-game unbeaten streak, the Guilford girls' ice hockey team started a new trend that might be difficult to keep up: averaging 10 goals per game. In the Indians' last two contests, they clawed their way back to .500, doing so in an impressive offensive fashion, beating the likes of West Haven and Lauralton Hall.

Guilford (8-8-1) posted a resounding 11-0 shutout of West Haven on Feb. 4, scoring three goals in each of the first two periods and five in the third. Kara Welch, Ali Putney, and Mackenzie Cattaruzza led the way with two goals apiece, followed by goals from Krystal Williams, Tess Cianciolo, Katherine Rosadini, Julianna Molloy, and Angelica Hurteau.

All in all, it was a great night for stat stuffing as the Indians as a team combined for 20 points with assists coming from Putney (2), Molloy (2), Rosadini, Williams, Welch, Cianciolo, and Zoe Bosenberg. Goaltender Edy Moritz made 20 saves for Guilford.

The Indians were equally impressive on Feb. 8 when they won another lopsided contest, this time over Lauralton Hall, 9-1. Moritz had a hat trick, Welch lit the lamp twice, and Guilford also got tallies from Cianciolo, Molloy, Raccuia, and Hurteau. Helpers were dished out by Molly (2), Cianciolo, Moritz, Putney, Cattaruzza, and Welch.

Guilford then improved its winning streak to three games on Feb. 10 when it knocked off Wilton 3-0.
