Cynthia Lerman Earns All-SCC Honors for Branford Hornets' Gymnastics

Sophomore Jessica Beler fared well in all four events to guide Branford gymastics to sixth place at the SCC Championship, a performance about which Coach Brian LeRoux was quite pleased.

The Branford gymnastics team competed at last week's Southern Connecticut Conference championship and saw freshman Cynthia Lerman place 10th in the all-aroudn with a score of 31.9 to earn All-SCC honors and help the Hornets finish sixth as a team with 97.75 points, placing ahead of Shelton.

Lerman's All-SCC showing was bolstered by her taking fifth on vault with a score of 8.8 and Coach Brian LeRoux was additionally pleased with the performances of junior Jenn Lassman and sophomore Jessica Beler, who competed in all four events in the bars, beam, floor, and vault; as well as junior captain Mirai Hashimoto in the floor routine and freshman Aaryne Antell on the beam.

Hand took first place at the meet for the fourth straight season.

"It was a great accomplishment for Cynthia to place 10th in the all-around against a very strong contingent from Hand, Shelton, Law, and Foran," said LeRoux. "Jenn and Jessica gave a good accounting of themselves in the all-around, Mirai stepped it up with her new floor routine, and Aaryne surprised everyone with her team routine. All around, this was a great result and I am very proud of this group."
