Hand Tigers Have Their Hands Full with North Haven Indians' Gymnastics

The North Haven gymnastics team gave another of the state's top squads a fierce contest last week as Brian LeRoux's squad took on Hand and dropped a 122.90-110.80 decision, as well as notching a 110.80-66.80 victory versus Branford.

Marie Facin (2nd), Lauren Macolino (3rd), Gabrielle Gontarek (4th), and Amanda Macolino (5th) all placed in the top five of the all-around for the Indians, who were led in individual events by Facin's second-place showing on vault, an event which saw Amanda Macolino place fourth and Lauren Macolino and Gontarek tie for fifth. Additionally, Facin came in fourth on bars, sixth on beam, and tied for sixth on floor; Gontarek was fourth on floor and finished tied for fifth on beam; Lauren Macolino tied for fourth on beam and tied for sixth on floor; and Amanda Macolino was fifth on floor and seventh on beam.

"Amanda surprised me on floor; she really worked hard to keep good form throughout the routine. The tumbling passes were on point and she really showed off her routine with a lot of grace and passion," said Coach Brian LeRoux, whose team is 6-6. "The Indians once again went out to compete hard and the girls will be ready for the SCC meet [at Law at 5 p.m. on Friday. Feb. 10]."
