Hornets Swim to Third at SCCs

The Branford girls’ swimming and diving team has designs on claiming the Class M title and had an outstanding showing in preparation for that event by earning a third-place finish at last week’s SCC Championship as the Hornets notched a trio of victories with junior Chrissy Rasile contributing to all three.

Rasile first swam the breaststroke leg of the Hornets’ second-place showing in the 200 medley relay as she, junior Chrissy Beaulac, senior Maryam Pourmaleki, and sophomore Lauren Rasile recorded a time of 1:54.35.

However, Chrissy Rasile was just getting warmed up as she then took first place in the 200 freestyle with a mark of 1:57.23, beating out Lyman Hall freshman Brittany Driscoll, who swam a 1:58.12.

Rasile then joined forces with the same quartet from the 200 medley relay to win the 200 freestyle relay at 1:42.92, finishing well ahead of runner-up Amity’s time of 1:44.21 to stay undefeated on the season.

After that, Rasile put the capper on her historic night by triumphing in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.21, just edging Amity freshman Lydia Pokluda, who went 1:10.50.

These achievements come on the heels of Rasile’s first two campaigns with Branford, both of which were quite successful as she took third in the 50 freestyle at states as a freshman, and then won the event at last fall’s Class M meet while also taking fifth in the 100 freestyle and swimming on the second-place 200 medley relay. Still, Rasile had never won at SCCs before—having placed second in last year’s 200 freestyle—and so prevailing amongst the conference’s best is the latest accomplishment on her résumé.
