12/01/2010 11:00 PMBranford High School seniors Paige Simmons and Cameron Brown, who captained the field hockey and boys' soccer teams, respectively, this fall were recently named the SportsCenter of Connecticut/Southern Connecticut Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Month for October.
Simmons has been an exemplary performer in the classroom as she's a CAPT Scholar and National Honor Society member with a 4.03 grade-point average. She also participates in Model Congress and the school choir as well as volunteering for Big Brother/Big Sister. Simmons was additionally a key part of the Hornets' run to the Class M semifinals this year and will captain the lacrosse team in the spring.
"Paige Simmons is caring, responsible, hard-working, and dedicated to being a team player," field hockey coach Cathy McGuirk said. "She sets a good example for her teammates."
A member of the Hornets' soccer, indoor track, and sailing programs, Brown has also been a standout in the classroom with a 3.78 GPA and is a CAPT Scholar and National Honor Society member. Brown earned All-SCC Oronoque Division honors this fall and will reprise his role as captain for the sailing squad this spring.
"Cameron displays all of the great qualities of a true leader," boys' soccer coach Paul Hunter said. "His work ethic is a great example for his teammates."
