Ocean State by Stewart O’Nan
“When I was in eighth grade, my sister helped kill another girl.” With that opening sentence, Stewart O’Nan sets the tone for his compelling tale of youthful obsession and tragedy. O’Nan always treats his characters tenderly and their mistakes compassionately. But his unflinching take on the lead up to and outfall from the murder is mesmerizing. He is one of my favorite authors ever.
