Nibbles: Camacho Garage, New Haven

To get to Camacho Garage in New Haven is a bit of a drive for me, which would give anyone pause with gas prices as high as they are. But when the name of the brilliant Mexican-American chef/owner Arturo Camacho came up, and I learned he named this clever and gorgeous restaurant Camacho Garage after his father’s garage in Mexico, how could I not?

Ellen and Mike Urban, who now live in New Haven, invited me to go to lunch. He is the author of Lobster Shacks, Clam Shacks, and his newest, Unique Eats and Eateries. The menu is large and exciting. We shared the guacamole, with added bacon and corn and pansies, too. It was the best I’d ever tasted. We had several appetizers and shared two tacos. One was the Tacos de Birria, served with beef consommé, Chihuahua cheese, onion, and cilantro. It was like a French dip, but so much better.
