Nibbles: Cocotte

I was in Old Saybrook, hungry, on a Friday afternoon. I remembered a little French bakery and restaurant located where the James Pharmacy used to be. I hoped it was open. Upon entering Cocotte, I saw glass counters filled with beautiful French pastry and macarons, three walls filled with French goodies for sale, and lovely marble tables set for meals. I ordered a French dip, short ribs with caramelized onions and peppercorns, served with a small ramekin of tiny pickles and vegetables and a palm-sized salad of Bibb lettuce tossed with just the right amount of perfect vinaigrette. Before I left, I bought a can of Café du Monde and a couple of the pastries. Next time I will try an omelette or eggs en cocotte, a salad, pain perdu (French toast), tartines, or raclette. Or just about anything else on the menu.
