Nibbles: Book Barn

Does everyone on they Connecticut shoreline know about the Book Barn? They should. The original is in Niantic and consisted of one big room and lots and lots of little ones full of books, books, and more books.. Now there are more, all in Niantic, but my favorite is Book Barn Downtown, hard by the Niantic Cinema, since this is where the cookbooks live. Recently, I read about a chef who is writing a cookbook with no recipes, but it is not a new idea. One I had saved from the Book Barn was The Blue Strawbery Cookbook by James Haller, written in 1976 (“strawbery” is the book’s spelling). We loved his restaurant in New Hampshire and bought his book there. The last time I was at the Book Barn, there was a copy. But even if there isn’t, if you like to cook (or know someone who does), consider buying a cookbook there. And if you can leave without buying one (most are under $5), I’d be surprised.
