‘A Passion for Pursuing Balance’

Amphora, mixed media on canvas, Ann Knickerbocker

The exhibit Chasing Balance will be on view Saturday, Oct. 9 to Saturday, Nov. 13, featuring the work of Gallery One artists Ann Knickerbocker from Old Saybrook and Paul Fitzpatrick Nager of Old Lyme. The artists each have a unique style and approach to creating art, yet share a passion for pursing balance in their compositions and in life.

Fitzpatrick Nager explores the connections in life and in nature using monotypes.

“In creating new work, the monotype has to come into being in its own way, and that can be maddening or exhilarating,” Fitzpatrick Nager says. “There is a sweet anxiety that an artist has to accept in creating new work, similar to what we all experience as we seek balance in our own lives.”

Knickerbocker’s abstract paintings share a visual narrative about the celebrations and challenges we experience in modern-day life.

“I strive for balance in my paintings, whether it is between light and dark, real or imagined, or near and far,” Knickerbocker says. “It is always satisfying to chase that elusive harmony in each new work.”

Connecticut-based Gallery One is a virtual gallery representing a diverse group of established artists whose works reflect different artistic traditions. To view the virtual exhibit, visit www.galleryonect.com.
