Nibbles: Breakfast at the Parthenon Diner

After the washout that was Memorial Day weekend, I did my errands early on a recent Saturday morning so I could spend a beautiful afternoon at the beach. My errands included some that took me to Old Saybrook and, by 10:30 a.m., I wanted breakfast. I stopped at the Parthenon Diner and, with coffee in hand and my Kindle at the ready, resting on the jar of ketchup, I looked at the menu. I had to look twice before I saw a two-egg sandwich on a hard roll, with bacon, hash browns, coffee, and a glass of orange juice. All for only $8. It was a treat. I love eating breakfast out, but during the pandemic, I rarely ate in restaurants (and, actually, rarely got takeout, either). But I do feel heartened now that it’s safe to mingle. I remembered, sitting there, how much I love to eat breakfast at a restaurant. I hope this special becomes a regular at The Parthenon Diner. It was a great price, and the sandwich, hash browns, coffee, and juice were delicious, too.
