Nibbles: Kokomo’s Restaurant and Beach Bar

Late last summer (or maybe early September) friends suggest we go to Kokomo’s for a Sunday brunch. I lived in Old Lyme for more than a decade and I never went to that restaurant. It was called other names, but it was mostly a seasonal bar and was owned by lots of people. It was never known for food, if it served it at all. That has changed. We four chose very good casual entrées (including soft shell crab sandwiches, one of my favorites), but there are many other choices, including steaks, pork chops, lots of appetizers, and a raw bar. In addition to lots of clever cocktails, we drank outstanding Bloody Marys. Mine was a Virgin Mary, maybe the best I’ve ever had. It is still very much a hot spot for young people, and they may have bands in the summer, so if you’re interested in conversation and good food, try going for lunch or an early dinner. And did I mention you can reserve a table on the beach and dine with your feet in the sand?
