Skye and Sea Photo Exhibit on Display in Guilford

Photographer Bob Barnett of Branford is exhibiting his work at the Java Hut, 20 Church Street, Guilford through Monday, Feb. 15. The show is called Skye and Sea.

Barnett, an architect in Branford, also is the author of several books on architecture and campus planning. His black and white photographs of cast iron buildings in Manhattan’s SoHo arts district, taken in the 1970s, were exhibited at the New York Historical Society and the Rotch Visual Arts Gallery at MIT. His 1990s photographs of stone barns, meeting houses, and bridges in Bucks County, Pennsylvania were exhibited at the Tucker Anthony Gallery in Princeton, New Jersey.

“Skye is one of several islands, known as the Hebrides, in the Atlantic Ocean west of the Scottish mainland. Roads are single track, whiskey is single malt, and the topography and coastline are singular,” says Barnett in his artist’s statement.

Two smaller prints limited to sea, sky, and horizon, inspired by Hiroshi Sugimoto’s seascapes and Mark Rothko’s Chapel paintings, are included.
