Breakwater Books Offering Event With Author of Yale Needs Women


Breakwater Books in Guilford is offering a virtual author event with Anne Gardiner Perkins, the author of Yale Needs Women: How the First Group of Girls Rewrote the Rules of an Ivy League Giant on Thursday, Jan. 21 from 7 to 8 p.m.

The author will be joined by two of the first class of women at Yale College, Kay Hill and Connie Royster, who is one the five women whose stories form the backbone of the book.

Yale Needs Women is based on 6 years of archival research and 80 oral histories and chronicles the early years of undergraduate coeducation at Yale, 1969 to 1972. It received strong reviews in The New York Times and The Washington Post, and was named by Forbes magazine as one of the top 10 higher education books of 2019.
