MAS Hosts Free Oil/Cold Wax Virtual Painting Demo

Green with Envy by Diane Brown

Diane Brown will give a Zoom oil/cold wax painting demonstration hosted by the Madison Art Society on Wednesday, Jan. 13 from 10 a.m. to noon. Brown is an award-winning mixed-media artist, specializing in oil and cold wax.

Brown’s love of bold colors is evident in her work. Each of her paintings tells its own story with its abstract composition of various marks, lines, shapes, and forms. Cold wax, ideal for the creation of layers, is soft wax made from mixing beeswax, mineral spirits, and resin and has been used for thousands of years. When mixed with oil paint it becomes a soft, frothy substance, similar to the frosting on a cake. Cold wax helps to extend the paint film, shortens drying time, and allows the artist to create layers. Brown uses a variety of tools to make marks and to add texture to her work, and uses solvents to remove and to reveal layers. Brown loves the oil and cold wax experience because outcomes can be surprising, but never dull.

The art demo is free and open to the public. Viewers are invited to paint along, if they wish, and a supply list is provided. RSVP to Marianne@rdtech.com by noon on Sunday, Jan. 10.
