The Centerbrook Architects Lecture Series is offering a talk by Robert Miller, FAIA on “Solace From Home: Sheltering in a Bohlin Cywinski Jackson Residence” on Friday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m.

For many, the present moment has meant expanded time at home. Although disruptive and challenging, this has also been a time of opportunity, to engage with dwellings in new ways, and to seek comfort, support, and even inspiration in uncertain times.

Bohlin Cywinski Jackson Principal Robert Miller will discuss the firm’s residential work and the ways clients have adapted to a new normal at home. From the mountains of British Columbia to the remote lakes of Ontario, or self-sufficient urban agriculture in Hawaii to a self-built studio on the peninsula of Point Roberts, Washington, BCJ’s award-winning residences celebrate a sense of place, context, ecological sensitivity, and innovative use of materials.

Through a series of case studies, the discussion will explore the firm’s holistic design approach and what it means to find solace from home today.

This Zoom event is free and open to the public. Registration is required. For more information, call the Essex Library at 860-767-1560 or visit www.youressexlibrary.org.
