The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski

Edgar, a boy who can hear but not speak, lives with his mother, father, and dog on a farm in rural Wisconsin during the early 1970s, where his family breeds and sells Sawtelle dogs. After a tragic incident, Edgar flees into the woods with three of his dogs. Edgar comes of age in the wilderness fighting for his survival. This impressive tale full of solid characters and vivid locales was picked by Oprah Winfrey for her Book Club in 2008 and she’s currently producing the film.
