Matilda the Musical will be offered by Kidz Konnection on Saturday, June 6 with performances being offered online at 2 p.m. with Cast A and 5 p.m. with Cast B.

The production will be a private showing for those who already purchased tickets. Those who already purchased tickets and did not have them refunded will receive a link on June 6. The performance was scheduled to take place in March at Andrews Memorial Town Hall in Clinton, but was canceled due to the pandemic. For those who still wish to see the event and do not have tickets, Kidz Konnection is accepting donations. More information about that is available by emailing kidzkonnectionct@gmail.com.

Director Laura Attanasio knew she had the opportunity to stage the show in a unique way that still allowed the cast to perform the show they spent months preparing for.

“I feel we’ve come out of a period of great transition and uncertainty with an amazing show the cast has poured their heart into,” says Attanasio. “Performing the show online doesn’t take away from the tremendous amount of effort the cast made before the lockdown started, and I think it will be something everyone will be proud of.”

Attanasio has worked with other theater educators, such as Steven Ness of Impact Arts Events in Clinton in the past, but never in an online format.

“Matilda will be multi-dimensional, and that’s really exciting,” says Ness. “We’re working on including a little bit of livestreaming, recorded Zoom sessions, and other platform options to really highlight everyone in the cast as much as possible.”

The full cast of 86 has mostly remained committed to performing digitally in such a different platform, but the decision was made to split the cast to better showcase different performers, and allow the kids to enjoy their time at home without stressing over the show.

In an effort to stay true to its mission to provide the arts to youth for the purpose of developing strong, healthy minded leaders of the future, Kidz Konnection has remained fully open with tuition waived for anyone interested for its spring session, already underway.

Classes include creative writing for all age levels, Shakespeare, contemporary dance, tap/jazz for the teen/tween beginner, improvisation and scene study. Students also are welcome to participate in the ensemble of one of the musicals. Classes remain available, free to any interested in trying out any class, online throughout this period of uncertainty. For more information, visit kidzkonnectionct.org.
