Clinton Art Society Offering Exhibits, Events, Demonstrations

Clinton Art Society (CAS) has developed online virtual programming to safely present the arts to the shoreline community and its membership.

The CAS annual Member’s Exhibition was extended through May 28.

To help bring art to the CAS membership and the community, CAS has initiated a weekly online Art Share & Critique using ZOOM Meeting technology. Artists may email any .jpg of their work to casclinton@gmail.com.

CAS will reply with the meeting id and password for the meeting, and, if needed, step by step directions for accessing and using the software. Using the “Share Screen” feature, participants can see the art works as they are presented for review.

Guest artists discuss that week’s works providing insights into specific aspects of composition, color, and design. These remarks are followed by participant discussion. All paintings submitted to CAS by Wednesday at 5 p.m. are reviewed at that week’s critique.

Beginning Thursday, May 28, CAS will begin its bi-monthly Virtually LIVE Demonstration Series with artist Frank Bruckmann. The demonstration will feature a live how-to segment and an interactive Q&A segment. Bruckmann will demonstrate color-mixing, painting, and best practices in a unique format that focuses on the artwork.

“Participants can watch him create and talk through his process,” says CAS President Liz Egan.

Online audience participants will see a painting created close-up, through the eye and vantage point of the artist.

“You can never see that at a live in-person demonstration sitting in chairs in a row,” Egan says.

The society’s 71st annual Summer Juried Exhibition will have virtual and active components as well.

“We are working together with the Town of Clinton leadership to see which aspects of the exhibition can be at Andrews Memorial Town Hall and which will only be online,” says Egan. “Our board is planning to make the most creative, quality exhibition we can, with some fun and exciting ways for our community to safely access exhibition program online and in person.”

A prospectus for the exhibition will arrive in members’ mailboxes and email and be posted to the organization’s website www.clintonartsociety.info by the end of May; $2,000 in prizes will be awarded by the juror.

For more information and to arrange a tutorial for audience and artist participation, contact Egan at 860-669-4487 or casclinton@gmail.com.

CAS was established in 1949 by a small group of artists dedicated to the growth of the arts along the Connecticut shoreline.
