Congregation Beth Shalom Rodfe Zedek (CBSRZ), 55 East Kings Highway, Chester announces the celebration of the annual Shabbat Across America on Friday, Feb. 28. The shoreline community is cordially invited again this year to join the CBSRZ family along with 700 Jewish congregations throughout the United States and Canada to take part in the joyous weekly Shabbat service and festive meal.

Those who have not yet experienced Shabbat will learn how this tradition enriches lives.

Shabbat is the weekly Jewish day of rest that links generation to generation in a time when families gather together to observe a traditional service and meal.

This special Shabbat Across America is free of charge.

The celebration of Shabbat begins at 6 p.m. with a wine and cheese reception for adults, followed by a traditional family Shabbat service and dinner. The main course will be prepared by CBSRZ salmon poachers and by Alforno Restaurante of Old Saybrook. Rabbi Marci Bellows and Cantor Belinda Brennan will lead an interactive Shabbat service with all rituals explained. The celebration is completed by an Oneg Shabbat when participants gather to enjoy an array of homemade desserts and fellowship.

CBSRZ is a warm and diverse congregation serving the lower Connecticut River valley and shoreline region. CBSRZ welcomes interfaith families, singles, and nontraditional families. CBSRZ is located at 55 East Kings Highway in Chester. For additional information and to RSVP, visit www.cbsrz.org or call 860-526-8920.
