Henry, Himself by Stewart O’Nan

Fans of Stewart O’Nan are in for a treat with this prequel to Emily, Alone and Wish You Were Here about the Maxwell family. The two prior books focused on Emily, Henry’s widow, and how she dealt with life after Henry. In this book, Henry, at 75, is reflecting back on his life. Most of it has been good, and he shares it through short chapters about ordinary, everyday events. This wonderful character study show us a man who accepts what he cannot change and enjoys the life he is living.
