Chelsea Girls by Fiona Davis

The author again takes us back to New York City, as she did in her previous novels. This time it is 1940 and two unlikely girls join the military. They join up for different reasons, but an unexpected friendship is born and continues for 20 years. They later end up at the Chelsea Hotel, honing theatrical careers, one as a playwright and the other as an actress. Then, they are caught up in the McCarthy communist investigation, which shreds their friendship and careers, along with the lives of others. This is story of love, power, and deception.
