Members of the educational community, including teachers and support staff, are invited to take part in a Day of Mindfulness for the Education Community on Sunday, Sept. 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a fee of $30, which includes lunch, at Mercy by the Sea, 167 Neck Road, Madison.

The event—being sponsored with the support of the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven and the Watershed Partnership—will introduce and reinforce mindfulness practices that can help reduce stress and anxiety, and help improve interactions with students and colleagues.

The facilitators are Dana Schneider, Ph.D., and Jerry Silbert, M.D.

Schneider trained with the Engaged Mindfulness Institute and is a certified mindfulness teacher through the International Mindfulness Teachers’ Association. Schneider’s practice is deeply influenced by the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh and Plum Village, where she received the five mindfulness trainings. She is a certified Kripalu yoga teacher, adjunct professor at Southern Connecticut State University, and is founder of Contemplative Insights, LLC, located at Mercy by the Sea.

Silbert is a physician trained at the Harvard Mind Body Medical Institute, and with Jon Kabat-Zinn at the Center For Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. He has been facilitating mindfulness retreats for more than 23 years. He is currently the executive director of the environmental and health non-profit, The Watershed Partnership.
