With a unique writing style, the author does a good job of educating the reader about the past history of the struggle of Native Americans. The pow wow becomes the centerpiece of the story with 12 characters gradually revealing their relationships with one another. This debut novel is brutal, honest, sad, powerful, and definitely worth reading.
