Nibbles: Field View Farm Ice Cream

On a trip to Griffin Hospital in Derby, I saw a large farm and a small sign that said “ice cream.” Since I was on a four-lane divided road, I decided I’d best go to my hip replacement class, preparing for an upcoming surgery, and then stop on the way back home. An hour and a half later, I parked next to just one Subaru and as I got out of my car, I smelled cows. In a good way. I actually like the smell of cows. I ordered a small butter pecan cone, and asked where the cows were. Two women working there said they were down on a field. I asked if the ice cream comes from those cows and they explained that it used to be but that there is not enough milk and cream for the customers in the summer. I licked at my creamy ice cream; I saw an enormous sign for the farm. It was established in Thomas Hine in 1639 and has been under family ownership for 12 generations. By the time you read this, I will have my new hip and my daughter and I will have stopped there for ice cream cones to celebrate.
