04/04/2019 12:01 AMWhen the chef/owner opened The Essex just over a few years ago, he learned that his special Mexico Thursday Night was standing room only. He then decided to divide the restaurant in half and that became Los Charros Cantina. Judging from the crowd on a Thursday evening in early March, he did the right thing. Los Charros has a small menu, very much taco-centric. We all ate tacos (two small ones per dish) and I also shared a superb posole, a dark clear soup filled with cabbage, hominy, chicken, and Brussels sprouts. Best of all is a flight of salsas, seven of them, beginning with a lovely avocado and ending with a blazing Yucatan. Our waiter suggested we keep the salsas on the table during our main meals, so we could add the salsas to the tacos. I loved all the salsas (although I only tasted the fiery one once). The warm chips and those salsas beckon.
