Can creating and sharing personal stories lead to greater happiness? Nina Lesiga says the answer is yes, something she discovered after she found a message from nine-year-old Luca in a Coke bottle that washed up at a beach near her home.

She will be talking with the Madison Happiness Club on Wednesday, March 27, 7 p.m., at Hubley Hall next to the First Congregational Church, 26 Meeting House Lane, on the town green in Madison.

Sharing personal stories by oral tradition turned into a passion for Lesiga. She says both the creative process and the simple act of telling her stories helped her uncover new insights about herself and how she’s wired for happiness.

“I saw a trend emerge in the increased size and frequency of my happiness and that people engaged more deeply. Being listened to and understood everyday felt fabulous,” she says.

Lesiga’s drawn to crafting stories about the uncommon and the unexpected.

After her 30-year career as a chemist, Lesiga reinvented herself as an artist. She performs true life stories at storytelling performances, conferences, festivals, and corporate events. She’s a member of the Story City Troupe in Middletown and the Hempsted Storytellers in Waterford. She’s a co-organizer of PechaKucha Bridgeport, a community forum for sharing personal stories.

She will be facilitating a hands-on storytelling workshop and performing at Northeast Storytelling’s annual Sharing the Fire conference at Hotel 1620 in Plymouth, Massachusetts on Saturday, March 30. More information is available at gottatravelsolo.com.
