The Knowledge by Martha Grimes, along with To Die But Once by Jacqueline Winspear, are the latest installments of the Maisie Dobbs and Richard Jury mystery series. I was happy to see Richard Jury resurface in top form after a four-year lapse, in a book starring precocious, street-savvy Patty Haigh, 10, one of Grimes’s most memorable characters. The Maisie Dobbs series begins during World War I with Maisie serving as a nurse, after which she becomes a private psychological investigator, demonstrating her unique insight into her cases.
