Madison Potters Open Studio for 43rd Annual Open House

Anita Griffith and Robert Parrott will hold their 43rd annual Pottery Open House and Sale at their studio.

Anita Griffith and Robert Parrott will hold their 43rd annual Pottery Open House and Sale at their studio, 120 Acorn Road, Madison on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 10 and 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free and all are welcome.

The husband and wife team work side-by-side in their Madison studio. While both attended art school and have sold their work nationwide, they approach their work with non-traditional processes and materials. They say their common ground is love of the work itself and the life they’ve built together, surviving as artist craftsmen.

Farm to table is not a new concept for these two.

“Potters are all good cooks,” says Parrott.

A peek behind the studio reveals extensive gardens that produce lots of food and flowers. Some would say they are farmers, too. They invent pots around those interests, with designs for serving and baking, even fancy flower pots made of native clay.

Parrott’s signature work is reminiscent of seascapes, the Southwest, or the mountains. He just calls it “landscape.” Griffith tends toward color and whimsy, and creates fanciful cups, vases, and platters.

Their studios will be transformed into gallery/reception areas for this annual event, and the public is invited to attend. Examples of the work may be viewed at potteryct.com
