The East Haddam Stage Company will perform the 1930 live action Sherlock Holmes radio drama, The Adventure of the Speckled Band, at Acton Public Library, 60 Old Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27.

The East Haddam Stage Company uses Connecticut native William Gillette’s script, originally broadcast in October of 1930 from New York City. Gillette created the character of Sherlock Holmes for the stage in 1899. In their production, four actors portray seven characters, using a complete sound effects table. It is a one-hour presentation and there will be a 15-minute intro by producing artistic director Kandie Carle. Carle touches on mid-20th century radio shows in general and the discovery of the script, along with details on the production for Gillette Castle State Park. Then they launch into the 30-minute show where attendees become the studio audience. A question and answer session will follow.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Acton Public Library.

The event is free and open to all. Registration is strongly suggested as seating is limited. Register at actonlibrary.org or by calling 860-395-3184. For additional information, call the library or visit at actonlibrary.org.
