Fall bird walks at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison continue, leaving from The Audubon Shop, 907 Boston Post Road, Madison on Saturdays through Nov. 17.

Participants will meet at The Audubon Shop parking lot at 7:50 a.m., carpool to Hammonasset at 8 a.m., and return at about 10:30 a.m.

Migrating hawks, eagles, owls, shorebirds, waterbirds, and songbirds can all be seen at Hammonasset, one of Connecticut’s premier birding hot spots. Birds migrating south are sometimes pushed by westerly winds toward the shore, so they hug the coastline. Birds of prey, including hawks, falcons, and eagles, can often be spotted soaring overhead or hunting along their routes. Several songbirds exchange bright spring feathers for more drab non-breeding colors, and guides will help participants distinguish these sometimes confusing differences.

Beginners are welcome. There is no need to pre-register. There is a $5 charge per person. Binoculars are necessary and may be rented for $4, call to rent, 203-245-9056, or toll-free, 888-505-9056. More information is available under the events tab at www.theaudubonshop.com/.
