Nibbles: Lodi Apples?

I love having a meal at Libby and Lee’s house in the summer, especially when Libby’s garden is filled with vegetables. She always sends me home with produce or, sometimes, something she herself has made from the garden. A few weeks ago, in addition to produce, she gave me a frozen packet of applesauce and said it was the best she ever had. Truth to tell, it was so incredibly amazing that I ate the whole bowl for lunch. The key, Libby says, is that her friend gets Lodi apples, and that they are very difficult to find. Indeed, her friend has to special-order the apples. As I watched football one Sunday, at the same time reading the entire New York Times, I remembered the apples. I Googled and found no local grower. So this morning I e-mailed Amy Traverso, food editor of Yankee magazine, co-host of Weekend at Yankee and author of an apple compendium with recipes, and asked how I might get those apples. Then I thought, “why not ask my readers?”

Can you help?—Lee White
